Donkey Kong Country 2 is sequel to DK’s first adventure as a hero character, this time featuring Diddy Kong on his quest to Crocodile Isle to save Donkey Kong from the clutches of Kaptain K. Rool, King K. Rool’s pirate persona. Along the way Diddy is joined by his girlfriend Dixie Kong, who uses her long hair to glide across field and make platforming a cinch! Don’t ask how she’s able to do that…
Widely regarded as the fan favorite of the DKC franchise, DKC2 is definitely a title to play for any one who loves Donkey Kong. Naturally, it uses the same graphical art style as the original Donkey Kong Country. This game also introduces other staples, namely DK Coins and Banana Coins, which allows players to buy hints from various characters throughout the game. It also introduces Bonus Coins, called Kremcoins in this title, and establishes Bonus Barrels instead of traditional Bonus Rooms like in the original DKC.
Notes From the Editor
Donkey Kong Country 2 is my favorite of the DK series, and it also introduces my favorite character in the series: Dixie Kong! It also shows far more of King K. Rool’s hilarious insanity with his new pirate persona, Kaptain K. Rool. I wasn’t able to play this as much as a kid, but eventually I did get DKC2 and DKC3 and played through them fully.
Fun fact: I never knew it was called “Diddy’s Kong Quest” (especially the “konquest” pun in the title) until July 2014. Yeah. And that’s even after I replayed DKC1-3 twice within the span of a few months. I always thought it was actually “Diddy Kong’s Quest.”
